KJARTAN SLETTEMARK R.I.P.
13.12.2008
I just received the very sad news that the great Kjartan Slettemark passed away this morning, age 76. Most artists that age have long ago passed their pinnacle, but Kjartan had more creative juices running and more energy in him than any youngster. In fact; hanging out with him made me feel old. I got to do one project with him, and although I'm grateful for that I was really looking forward to doing more together. Kjartan's passing feels much too premature in many ways. He was one of a kind and a big inspiration for many of us. My condolences to those close to him.

JAZKAMER IN MEXICAN FILM
03.12.2008
Director Amat Escalante has used tracks from Jazkamer's "Metal Music Machine" album in his film Los Bastardos. Now there's a trailer on YouTube - a snippet of the track "Abomination" can be heard.
UK TOUR
21.11.2008
Will be touring the UK next week; three gigs with Testicle Hazard; part of a drone-marathon in London; and playing in Dror Feiler's noise orchestra in Huddersfield and at Fylkingen (in Stockholm) performing his "Music Is Castrated Noise". Read an interview with Dror Feiler here!
DJ DEBUT
27.10.2008
I will be making my debut as a DJ this friday on Revolver in Oslo. This is a series of nights where musicans are asked to DJ playing records and music that has meant something to them over the years. So if you feel like hearing Iron Maiden, Morton Feldman and classic swedish death metal this friday you know where to go. I start around 23:00.
COCK OF CORPSE
27.10.2008
Me and Jon Wesseltoft (of black metallers Thorns) will have another one-off band playing in Oslo soon; Cock of Corpse will play its one and only gig at Revolver on november 6th. Our previous one-off band was The Twin Chainsaws of Ecstacy, and Cock of Corpse will follow in the same musical gutter; relentless guitar-kamikaze action. Imagine a retarded Solmania.

NEW LOOOP SITE!
13.10.2008
The new Looop website is up. I think you'll find it better looking and easier to browse/make orders. If you're looking for obscure Norwegian music, or foreign artists released on Norwegian labels, Looop is the webshop to visit. It's also the only place you can pick up my "Learning To Fly" 7" single.
NEW RELEASE: SUNN0))) DØMKIRKE DOUBLE LP
23.9.2008
From the Southern Lord website:
Sunn0)): Dømkirke 2 x LP
Last year sunn 0))) was invited to perform at a ancient cathedral in Bergen Norway . The performance was captured via 24 track mobile recording and the resuluts were pressed onto double 180 gram vinyl. This recording will be available exclusively on vinyl only. There will not be a digital release (cd or downloads). Pure analog! The 0))) lineup for this performance includes Attila Csihar (Mayhem) on vocals, Steve Moore (Earth, Ascend) on the churchs' legendary pipe organ and Norwegian native Lasse Marhaug on electronics.
The packaging for "Dømkirke" was designed with the utmost attention to detail and quality that perfectly compliments the audio content. Each 180 gram vinyl comes in a heavy stock, full color inner sleeve that features stunning photographs from the performance. The cover of the gatefold jackets feature exclusive art by Tanya Stene (Burzum, Ulver, Darkthrone).
The jackets themselves are ultra-durable extra thick cardboard stock with thick, luxurious lamination. These were modeled after the Impulse! labels' LP jackets from the ‘60s. This package is durable, built to last and serves as the perfect shelter for this archival release.
NEW RELEASE: SPLIT SINGLE WITH MATS
17.9.2008
The Ukrain label Quasipop has released a split 7" single with me and the swedish sax-warrior Mats Gustafsson which pays tribute to the late and great Swedish sound and visual artist Åke Hodell. I've got a handful of copies available.
MY HEAD EXPLODES
15.9.2008
My pal Ronnie Sundin has a nice blog for his drawings. Check out the recent piece in which my head explodes. I've felt like this many times while performing.
ME WITH THE KITTENS
14.9.2008
Listen to a recording of me with Norwegian hard-improv trio Puma at their myspace-site. This is a recording from 2007, and as we're sitting on a lot of material the plan is to have a vinyl release available at some point. Unfortunately I haven't had time to perform with Puma this year, but 2009 will be better.
NEW RELEASE: EAR ERA CD
13.9.2008
The CD-version of my commissioned piece for the Henie Onstad Art Centre is now out. The Norwegian website Ballade posted a review yesterday. Copies available from me. Tomorrow I will do the final live-version at the centre. Tuesday the piece will be performed in Bergen. No further performances of Ear Ear is scheduled.

JAZKAMER VIDEO
28.8.2008
My web-designer and good pal Håvard Gjelseth has made this video from Jazkamer's performance at Club Urga in february this year. The video made up of 1200+ still images from the show edited together, and the result is rather frantic. The audio is a cut-up mishmash of the same show.
EAR ERA PART TWO AT HOK
20.8.2008
This saturday I'll be presenting the second (of three) concert version of the commissioned piece "Ear Era" at the Henie Onstad Art Centre. Motorpysycho will make a rare collab with Deathprod the same day, and SPUNK is performing, so there's really no reason to stay home if you live in Oslo.

1998 CRIME UNEARTHED
25.7.2008
A wall-of-sound plunderphonic/bootleg/anti-mix project by Origami Replika that I was involved ten years ago has resurfaced online. Untill this appeared I had no recollection whatsoever of doing this. It was meant as a 10" that never happened. Well worth a listen if you like the monolithic cascading feel of my Testicle Hazard and The Nordic Miracle recordings.
NEW RELEASE: PHONOLOID'S FIRST STATEMENT
22.7.2008
The fine people at Ambolthue and Synesthetic have put their heads together and released a 7" single of my duo with Petter Flaten Eilertsen: Phonoloid. Layers and layers of heavily sedated vinyl-sludge. If you ever spent time wondering what it'd sound like if someone put mud on your turntable, Phonoloid is probably not far off.
SLUGFIELD
22.7.2008
Clip from the trio with Maja Ratkje and Paal Nilssen-Love. It's listed as All Ears All Scars, but the trio is now called Slugfield.

NEW RELEASE: SUDDEN INFANT REMIX
21.5.2008
I'm usually not so keen on contributing to remix projects, but I was delighted when Sudden Infant asked me to remix a track for their new album "Psychotic Einzelkind" on Blossoming Noise Records. Not a remix album per se, it's all new material from Joke and company, with three mixes by me, Z'ev and Thurston Moore.
NO FUN FEST
20.5.2008
Thanks to Carlos Giffoni or setting up an enjoyable No Fun festival at the Knitting Factory in New York this past weekend. I played a set with Dror Feiler. Someone put a clip on YouTube. Later in the year No Fun will issue an LP of our duo, titled "No More Drama".
TAPES NEW REVIEW
6.5.2008
Although a year old since its release, I recently found this flattering review on my TAPES box-set. I've been constantly surprised on how well received the box has been. I imagined that four full discs of my adolescent cassette extravagances would only be for the hardcore fan-base (whoever they might be), but have been proven wrong in the wealth of positive feedback it has generated since its release. I figured it would be around forever, but I now see the end of the initial 600 copies pressing.
SLOW ON EMAIL
17.4.2008
I won't be answering much email the upcoming weeks as I'm going on a trip to Vietnam.
NEW RELEASE: FIRE ROOM
16.4.2008
The debut album of my trio with Paal Nilssen-Love and Ken Vandermark is titled "Broken Music" and is out now on Atavistic Records. The album was recorded in the summer of 2005. Since it was recorded on analogue tape it took some time to get the mixing and mastering done, but it's good to finally have the record out. Here's a sound sample. Read a review as well.
RECOMMENDATION

COMMISSIONED PIECE AT HENIE-ONSTAD
3.4.2008
This sunday I will perform a commssioned piece at the Henie-Onstad Art Centre at Høvikodden outside of Oslo.
This art centre had a central role in presenting experimental, electronic and improvised music in the 60 and 70ies, with people like John Cage, Iannis Xenakis and Mauricio Kagel visiting and presenting/performing their work. Of course the early Norwegian electronic music was performed there as well. For this piece I have been given access to the Henie-Onstad sound archives to use that material any way I like. What I've created is a manic tape-cut-up avalanche. The first version will be performed this weekend, with another one in august. A CD version is also in the works. Here's an interview in Norwegian on subject.
NEW RELEASE: RED TAPE ROT RETURNS!
26.3.2008
After a nine year break me and my good friend Ronnie Sundin, aka Bad Kharma, are ready to continue the Red Tape Rot
cassette series. Red Tape Rot 6 is available on Fukk Tapes as of now. First 30 copies is an 'art' edition in which each copy includes and original drawing by Ronnie. This is to be followed by a regular editon (no drawing I guess). Good to have Ronnie back doing noise again. I also suggest you pick up his eminent book "The History of Electronic Music", published by Häpna last year.
UTFLUKT DVD
19.3.2008
Norwegian magazine Utflukt's recent issue is a DVD. It contains a four minute video collage of me in various situations around the world.
The piece is titled "Video Journals 2004-2007" and the soundtrack is a reharsh of the entire "It's Not The End Of The World" album. Edited by my sister Gry Marhaug. The DVD also has stuff by Maja Ratkje and other norwegian sound/visual artists. Available from the Utflukt website.

JAZKAMER 8-MAN LINE-UP IN BERGEN
5.3.2008
Here's a clip from when a 8-man strong Jazkamer line-up performed at the Borealis festival in Bergen last weekend. The clip is from the final moments, basically just me pulverizing the remains of Jørgen's guitar and Hirsohi Hasegawa screaming. Amusingly it sounds rather power-electronics like, but there was a good half-hour of blastbeat bonanza before this bit. They put up some pictures as well. (For reasons unknown we were billed as Metal Music Machine, not Jazkamer).

HOME AGAIN
17.2.2008
Just home from another fantastic Japan tour. My thanks to Shayne Bowden for booking/making it all possible. Numerous highlights flicker in my mind; but the one that sticks out the most was experiencing the five-piece Hijokaidan set at Fukuoka Extreme Musical Festival. About as enjoyable and fulfilling a noise gig can get. Hats off to Mr Hiroshige and his jolly crew. My design-pal Håvard came along for the first half of the trip and has posted pictures on his blog. Also thanks to the Lord of Glass; Mr. Justice Yeldham, for being such a fine touring-companion.
JAPAN JAZKAMER

In February Jazkamer will be touring in Japan together with the man of glass; Justice Yeldham. Special thanks to Shayne Bowden and Hiroshi Hasegawa for setting it up the shows. This will be my third time to Japan in less than a year, needless to say I enjoy it there. Here's what I did last time. And another one, and another one.

Awright - a bit late this first post of 2008. 2008 started with a bang - first the 2008 edition of the All Ears festival. Great fun, with amazing performance from people like John Wiese, 16 Bitch Pile Up, Lars Myrvoll/Ole Henrik Moe, Pymathon, Art Directors, Kobi and others. The festival was a great success in all possible ways and we already look forward to start working on next years fest. Interview by the norwegian website Ballade.
