PRISMA RECORDS
23.11.2009
Together with Lars Mørch Finborud I have resurrected the Prisma Records label. In the 70's and 80's this was the in-house label of the Henie Onstad Art Centre, and now it has come back to life. With Prisma Records we will unearth gems from the art centre's vast archives, but also release documentations of current musical ongoings. The first two CDs are out now: Ingar Zach/Andreas Meland "Music For Tinguely" and Kåre Kolberg "Nova". Fans of old electronic music will want to check out the latter, as its a previously unreleased work from 1972, and incredible stuff. More information can be found on the Prisma Records website. The CDs are distributed by Musikkoperatørene. Mimiarolgu Music Sales will also stock them. And I've got a handful of copies for sale myself (drop me an email if interested).

Video of Testicle Hazard from No Fun in Stockholm. And review (in Swedish) up at Sound of Music.

ME AT NITSCH PERFORMANCE
23.9.2009
Last weekend I did a performance at the Incubate festival. It was a commissioned piece celebrating the festival's main guest this year: Hermann Nitsch. Listed simply as Marhaug, the line-up was me, Jon Wesseltoft (Thorns, Maranata and Tongues of Mount Meru) on guitar and Kjetil Manheim (ex-Mayhem) on drums. The next day Mr. Nitsch did his 125th action, and here's a photo from the frontpage of Holland's biggest newspaper the following day. Look above the head of old man Nitsch in the centre to see yours truly transfixed by the carnage.

A bit behind on listing the autumn concerts; finally got to it. Just played No Fun (Testicle Hazard) and Incubate (Marhaug). RRR has made 2000 copies which each features individual artwork. Here's a video Keith Whitman made. And here's an audio mix of C. Spencer Yeh's tracks. So of course I had to make my version.

SOLO AT BLÅ NEXT WEEK
19.8.2009
Playing solo at Blå next tuesday opening for Æthenor. It's been a while since I've played solo in Oslo. Also Stephen O'Malley is performing a commissioned piece at the Henie Onstad Art Centre on sunday the 30th of august. I'm one of the music curators at the centre this year. Besides O'Malley this autumn there'll be performances by Merzbow, Void Ov Voices, Maja Ratkje, Jaap Blonk, Sten Hanson, Famlende Forsøk, Noxagt and many more. I'm also working on digitizing audio and video from the centre's huge archive. The plan is to resurrect the label Prisma Records and start releasing archival material. (Yes, I know, I'm a busy guy).

NEW RELEASE: DEL RISES AGAIN
23.6.2009
DEL is back with the first release since the "Five Dolls For An August Moon" LP. A double cassette called "Excellent Choice" documents our haunting live extravagances in New Zealand and Norway in 2005 and 2006. Released by Kassettkultur in an edition of 100 copies. Eighty heavenly minutes of full-on instrumental psychedelic noise-rocking recorded on opposite sides of the world. Those who dug the lush acid-trips of "Five Dolls" might want to reach for their earplugs as this material is closer to the Les Rallizes-side of the psych-pendulum.

I'M A COMIC BOOK CHARACTER!
21.4.2009
Ronnie Sundin has launched a comic book series called Very Friedly. Issue 1 is out now and features the story of Ronnie visiting me in Trondheim in the mid-90's. It's pretty damn hilarious and impressive work by Ronnie. There's also comics on Throbbing Gristle and Edgard Varése. It could well be the first comic book dedicated to experimental music. This issue also comes with a 7" single of me called "Trondheim Tapes Revisited". I went back to DAT-tapes of raw material from the period and made a collage-piece that would (hopefully) go well with the comic book format. 300 copies made and available from publishers Komplott. I also got a few copies available. Here's a video-teaser.

NEW RELEASE: WIESE SINGLE
7.3.2009
Italian label A Dear Girl Called Wendy has released a 7" single with me and my old comrade John Wiese. "LMJW" is pressed in 200 copies. This is a precursor to a full album coming later in the year. The single is old school overload thrashing, the album is going to sound completely different.

BOX GONE
5.3.2009
The copies I had of the Ear Era box are now gone. Try Second Layer and Tiger, they might have copies.

NEW RELEASE: EAR ERA DELUXE EDITION
17.2.2009
The deluxe box-set version of Ear Era is now finally finished. It has been delayed for a good six months because we couldn't find a satisfactory sollution for the box itself. It was worth the wait/search - we had a carpenter design and make by hand 50 wood boxes. Inspired by 60's fluxus art boxsets, and I must admit it looks really nice. Inside there's the "Ear Era" CD, a postcard, two photos, a signed plastic ear and a triple cassette, with material exclusive for this edition and individual cover artwork different for every box-set. Credit is due to designer Mats Lande and curator Lars Finborud for making this possible. We made 50 boxes of which I have a handful for sale. Email me if you're interested.

WINTER THOUGHTS
10.2.2009
Thanks to all those who made the All Ears festival and my tour of Japan such a fantastic time. Now back in Norway to the cold grip of winter. I've started the long overdue updating of the visual section of this site. It hasn't been updated in years, but now thanks to the wonders of Flickr and my pal Håvard (who recently became a father, congratulations!) I've found a sollution that will make it easier to maintain and update that neglected section of my website. There'll be tons of design work and photos from the last few years up sometime soon. I'll let you know when it's ready.

JAPAN DATES READY
14.1.2009
The dates to the Japan tour is ready. After a year's break I will again join forces with the Norwegian power trio Puma. We will do seven gigs together, plus a gig on Super-Deluxe where Puma will do a trio gig and I will do a trio with Jim O'Rourke and Merzbow. Also before this, at Club Soap in Tokyo on january 24th, there will be a release-party for the Incapacitants box-set. Strangely Incapacitants won't be playing their own release-party, as Fumio just became a father again (congratulations!) and cannot attend. Instead I will perform in a duo with Mikawa. Here's the poster for the tour. A Puma Marhaug LP will be available soon.

10.1.2009
My obscure minimalist/scrape/violin duo with Tom Løberg surfaces with its first 'proper' release since our formation in 2002. "B12" is a 7" single released by Indeterminant Music in a mere 102 copy edition. I've got copies for sale, and Looop will be stocking it soon.

NEW RELEASE: BOX IS STUPID
9.1.2009
After about a years break/pause the new Pica Disk release is ready; a 10 CD Box-Set by Incapacitants titled "Box Is Stupid". More info on the Pica Disk website.

NEW RELEASE: YEH COLLAB 7"
03.1.2009
A collaboration 7" with me and C. Spencer Yeh is out now on Arbor Records. Titled "The Elementary Particles". I'm at a loss for words to describe it, but the label says that it's "hours of recording, cut up and spliced together, giving the listener a glimpse into various short snippets of the sessions. Harsh quick sonic blasts, violin scrapes and drones, field recordings, vocal exercises, room clatter and more are used in the process, but the way that they are assembled and woven together provides a nonstop experience that goes best with highly concentrated listening. Still the result is so varied that something new can be heard on every listen; a recording so intense you can never truly grasp what is actually happening".

EXIT 2008, ENTER 2009
2.1.2009
Some things I remember from 2008: Nice trips to Vietnam, Japan, Russia, New York, Austria and Switzerland. Driving around the Lofoten area with my girlfriend. Performing with Dror Feiler's Noise Orchestra. Performing with Frode Gjerstad's CTO. Working on a commissioned piece for the Henie Onstad Art Centre. Releasing more vinyl than compact discs (a trend that will continue). Recording with John Wiese. Recording with C. Spencer Yeh. No Fun festival. Working with my label Pica Disk. Seeing incredible concerts by Tony Conrad, Neil Young, Hijokaidan, Whitehouse, Consumer Electronics, Otomo Yoshihide and Iron Maiden. Spending months recording my new 'main' solo album. Touring the UK with Testicle Hazard. Francis Bacon exhibit at Tate. Another fun All Ears festival. Biggest yet Jazkamer line-up in Bergen. Performing with Sunn0))) outdoor in Oslo. Touring less and spending more time at home. Working on music/sound for theatre with Vegard Vinge & co. (premiere due in may 2009). Working on the Incapacitants 10 CD box-set. Getting a new sound-system at home and spending time enjoying it. Christmas in the north. All in all 2008 was really an amazing year for me. If 2009 offers half the fun it'll still be a great time.
