December 1st 2009 / Jazkamer 2010 monthly series

In 2010 Pica Disk ventures on its most ambitious project yet: to release one Jazkamer CD-album every month of the year.

The Jazkamer 2010-series will be 12 proper new albums. The idea is to keep things exciting all the way, so in keeping with Jazkamer’s eclectic tradition of making very different sounding records, each monthly album will be different from the previous installments. The 2010-series will cover the wide (non)musical range Jazkamer has become known for since they started in 1998. This includes:

• First studio recordings of the metal line-up since ”Metal Music Machine” album
• New ”Art Breaker”-style grindcore recordings
• New ”Panic”-style broken-blues material
• Collaborations with John Wiese, Putrefier, Government Alpha and others
• Material with regular four-piece line-up of Hegre, Marhaug, Gross and Drønen
• And much, much more. Expect some surprises along the way also.

The CD’s will be packaged in proper digipak covers, and each will feature artwork by a different visual artist, like Savage Pencil, Martín Escalante, Jose de Diego, Justin Bartlett, Yasutoshi Yoshida and others.

Subscription in Europe: 156 US $ (= 13$ per CD, including postage)
Subscription rest of the World: 180 US $ (= 15$ per CD, including postage)

Make payment to Paypal-account: mail@lassemarhaug.no

For this price you will receive one Jazkamer album in the mail every month. The price includes postage. The CD’s will also be available separately, but then at regular prices.

May 7th 2008/ New TAPES review
Although a year old since its release, I recently found this flattering review on my TAPES box-set. I've been constantly surprised on how well received the box has been. I imagined that four full discs of my adolescent cassette extravagances would only be for the hardcore fan-base (whoever they might be), but have been proven wrong in the wealth of positive feedback it has generated since its release. I figured it would be around forever, but I now see the end of the initial 600 copies pressing.

March 10th 2008/ Birchville back in stock, Incapacitants almost gone, new 7"

The Birchville CD has been out of stock for a few weeks, but is now available again. The Incapacitants CD is almost gone (but still available from a number of distros). It will not be reprinted. There is also a new Lasse Marhaug 7" single limited to 100 copies. This 7" is NOT available from me, ONLY through the new Norwegian webshop Looop. It will not be sold wholesale abroad, it will only be available directly from Looop.

January 20th 2008/ Hijokaidan tip of the tounge

"Polar Nights Live" is selected as Tip of the Tounge-album at Volcanic Tounge:

Flat-out unbelievable new Hijokaidan album on Lasse Marhaug’s new Pica Disk imprint. One of the most confounding, mind-altering releases in their precociously heavy back catalogue, Polar Nights Live presents three different Hijokaidan line-ups, all of which operate at some kind of psychedelic/noise apex. Recorded live at the All Ears festival in Norway in 2006, the first track is the duo of Jojo Hiroshige on electric guitar and Junko on vocals and it’s one of the greatest Jojo performances of his career; the guitar sounds like it’s simply channelling bolts of pure electricity, with Jojo as the endlessly shocked conduit, with the strings warping under a hailstorm of feedback, protesting harmonics and pure squeal while Junko threads the chaos with exactingly articulated epiglottal ecstasies. Unbelievable. Second track is a twin guitar face-off between Jojo and Per Gisle Galaen of Del/Birds et al. This is much closer to the monolithic psychedelic rock of Fushitsusha than the contemporary Hijokaidan wind-tunnel feel and the sound of fully exploded phantom melodies is extremely beautiful. The final tracks features a single collapsing galaxy populated by Junko on vocals and Norwegian noise artists Sten Ove Toft on electronics. An amazing set, highly recommended.

October 15th 2007/ Kama on its way

The Hild Sofie Tafjord CD should be ready in about two weeks time.

October 13th 2007/ New release: Oren Ambarchi/Lasse Marhaug 7" single
The second Pica release is now out; a 7" single collaboration of Oren Ambarchi and Lasse Marhaug. Weird, eerie and ugly piano music, unlike anything you've heard from these chaps before. Keith of Mimaroglu Music Sales has it in stock already and describes it as:

october 2007 release; a pair of “piano music” pieces, acting as the debut collaborative single from two of contemporary experimental music’s most prolific/consistently rewarding practitioners; oren ambarchi and lasse marhaug...

those of you expecting something on par with maurizio pollini’s reading of satie’s gnossiennes might be a little shocked to find instead a fierce 12+ minute inside-piano scrape-fest, hedged with bursts of live-electronic feedback & a “hot” fidelity familiar from any number of david tudor recordings... yet at the same time not too far removed from the new blockaders’ whole gesamtnichswerk; this is anti-music at its finest...

not something for strict followers of oren’s friendly/subdued sine-guitar throb, nor lasse’s harsh wall of electronic sound; but definitely one for those whose preferences fall in the noisier end of the electro-acoustic composition/improv spectrum...

Reviews to the TAPES box-set have been kind. Read some at: Brainwashed and Sound of Music.
