The Nordic Miracle: We shall provide CD
Lasse Marhaug and Tore Honoré Boë have a rich history in the noise sche.
This duo might be known from formations such as Origami Replika, the
one-off joke Sultans of Swing, Lasse Margaug Band, Climax of Copengahen
and Herb Mullin, they were involved in. Again Lasse Marhaug and Tore
Honoré Boë produce a gigantic wall of feedback. Listening to the first
track entitled Bright bright lights, recorded live at Dark City, Blæst,
Trondheim, is like standing in the middle of a hurricane, though without a
moment of rest. Another comparison could be: the musical outing of extreme
pain, some early Merzbow material, or the cassette releases of the noise
scene at the end of the 80's. This concert must have been a tremendous
experience. The second track, also live recorded, is dedicated to Bach's death, which
happened 250 years previously. The beginning of this track is different
from the previous one, due to a slightly more structured approach, but
after a few minutes a sort of extreme static white noise takes over. As
they mention themselves in the booklet, it is all pure and direct and
containd lots of energy. The thirs track, While my guitar gently weeps
heads off rather calm, but it does not take long, begre the noise takes
over. Again the sound material comes from another live gig. This noise duo
from Trondheim delivered a hard digestible product that explodes right in
your face. Be warned and enjoy it!

THE NORDIC MIRACLE - WE SHALL PROVIDE (CD by Humbug)
Their first real CD release is however exclusively for Norwegian
artists, and I must say two living legends, Lasse Marhaug and Tore H.
Boe. They both have their hands firmly in the Norwegian experimental
music, and although not discovered entirely by the overground press,
I think it's merely a matter of time. As The Nordic Miracle, they
call themselves a crooner noise duo - "not at all inventive nor
groundbreaking", Boe says in the booklet. That's all true. These
three lenghty cuts, all captured in live concert of sheer blasting
noise. Kinda similar to the recent Marhaug/Drumm CD (this reference
for the youngsters), but also similar to most of these guys
backcatalogue, either solo or with Origami Replika or Del or one of
those other outings they ever used. Boe is right: the music is
nothing new, but as he also says in the booklet, the main goal for
them is the noise for noise sake, not to provoke. It's noise executed
very well. Noise is something many people can do, but only few can do
well.
