Lasse Marhaug/The Violet Grind: Split
7" single - Disaster Area, Germany - 1999

Reviews:

LASSE MARHAUG/ THE VIOLET GRIND (7" Vinyl Diseaster Area)

I am pretty hesitant when it comes to noise. It often simply annoys and bores
me. Unfortunately, the track by the Norwegian Lasse Marhaug is one of these
instances. A hiccuping hydraulic ramp and peeping high frequency tones. He
surely did not turn The Violet Grinds basic material into anything spectacular.
The Americans on the other hand use the Norwegian sources in a much more
captivating way. The screeching, peeping basic patterns without rhythm and void
of recognizable structure remain the same, but they create a true noise wall
which nevertheless bears dynamics and tension. The sheer violent eruption that
is noise music does not just vanish into thin air but the listeners body is
forced to reverberate. This does not have to be to anybodys liking either but at
least it does not not faze the listener as the first track does.
